Following a visit to the region by Mr. Baker in May 2003 it was decided our project would be based in Khaudom Park where we would carry out work for the Namibian Ministry of Environment and Tourism.  During the project phase of our expedition, we would spend the first two nights camping in Tsumkwe (the Capital of Bushmanland) getting ourselves organised and sorting the equipment.  Thereafter, we would move our base camp to Sikeretti.

One of the hides we worked on.

Largely environmentally based, our project had full Ministry approval. The specific tasks required were to improve existing game hides in the area (see above) by painting the wooden panels in a way that 'themed' each hide e.g. zebra, giraffe, leopard etc. The need for better sign posting in the park had also been identified, so we were asked to construct a number of 'elephant' proof signs made of rubble and cement. This work was very demanding physically, in what was a potentially harsh climate. We also offered to undertake 'game counts'.  All in all, plenty to keep us occupied.
